This is the story about a girl called Ava. When she was little she was sure she had special powers, but never managed to use them. As she grew up she decided that she was just a normal girl after all.
Then she starts college and meets Caleb who is tutoring her in physics. Turns out that Caleb isn't just a normal boy, and that Ava might have been right about her having some special abilities. The only problem is that the Race (which is what the humans with special powers call themselves) does not like it when half-breeds are out in the world as they are considered a threat to the Race.

I think this was a very interesting story, though it was definitely written for a younger audience. It has a little bit of young love, but not enough to be overly sweet. The story I found fairly original, and I read the book over 2 days wanting to know what would happen next.

My main problems with this book however was purely editing issues. I'm not sure if this is because I received an advanced copy, and if it has been fixed by now. 

There were 2 main issues that bothered me. One was the wrong use of the spacebar. There were missing spaces between words as well as spaces where there shouldn't be. Not a major issue perhaps, but there were so many that it was annoying me and ruined the flow of reading.

The other issue I had was the way conversations between characters were written out. I fairly often missed the little " because there were no spaces between when the different characters were talking. This might just be me not being observant enough, but it's not a problem I have ever had before when reading. Quite often I ended up reading a whole paragraph again because I got confused over who said what.

All in all it was a good read, would recommend it if you enjoy YA books!

Pet to the Tentacle Monsters! by Lilia Ford

There has been an alien invasion and humans are now living in refugee camps. After a silly prank that ruins a lot of the camps food supply Benji gets picked up by an enforcer and put up for adoption by the aliens (this is apparently how justice is served).

His first meeting with the alien is a little pink and tentacled creature that seems friendly and so he names it Kitty.

The second alien he meets is a creature with black tentacles so he names it Black. He (?) is completely different from Kitty and demands that Benji does what he is told while Black has his way with him, or he gets punished.

Benji decides that he has deserved punishment and so is ok with this treatment. OK, fine, I can overlook this instance of tentacle-rape. I guess.

Cue Silver. Alien creature number 3.

And with him comes full fledged tentacle-rape.

Now I have read my fair share of tentacle erotica, but the interactions between Silver and Benji is just... too much.

And in the end Benji decides to stay with them?? He would miss them all too much... Stockholm syndrome anyone??

So... not my favorite tentacle read...

Divinity by Michelle L. Johnson

This is the story of Julia, who thinks she is just a normal girl with a bad life story. Until one day she saves a baby from a burning car and comes out unharmed even though she should have died from the car exploding.
Turns out she is half angel and that the Archangel Gabriel is her father. But there are also evil creatures that doesn't want her alive. She must now risk her soul and learn to use her powers in time to fight the A'nwel. But are the angels telling her everything?

I enjoyed this book, it is really well written and I found the story to be quite original and interesting. I have to admit that angels aren't really my favorite subject, as I am not religious person. But this story was good enough that I didn't mind the occasional mention of God and Lucifer, it's not really a religious book as such, but definitely spiritual.
I still got engrossed in the story and read it in one day as I wanted to see what would happen next. I will definitely be looking out to see if there will be a sequel to see what happens next!

I would recommend this book if you like fantasy, and especially if you like reading about angels and Archangels!

Relentless by Dean Koontz

I vaguely remember reading this book about 15 years ago. Which basically means that I could not remember what would happen or how it would end. My brain doesn't work like that. I have been a Koontz fan for a long time, and enjoy his books. And I enjoyed this one as well (again).

The main character in the story is a writer called 'Cubby' and his family - a wife Penny, a (genious) son Milo and a (very special) dog Lassie. After the release of his latest book he receives a negative review from a famous book-critic named Shearman Waxx. Cubby knows he should just ignore it and focus on the good reviews. But unfortunately Waxx isn't planning on ignoring Cubby and his family... Before long Cubby is struggling to save his family as well as himself.

I liked the story. I love the characters, particularly the banter between them. I also enjoyed how Milo and Lassie were both very special and the bond between them.
I'm not sure I buy the whole book critic who starts murdering authors or the whole conspiracy that apparently is going on.

But I still enjoyed the book, and would recommend it.

The Sorcerer's Spell by Dani Kristoff

It has taken me a while to finish this book. Which isn't a good sign, as when I love a book I'm not able to put it down.

Though I did find the concept and the story quite interesting. A sorcerer has been hexed by a sorceress, and to make her release him from the spell he has no other choice then to use a binding spell on her. But she is more powerful then he knows and she manages to swap bodies with a woman. And so the woman (now in the sorceress' body) and the sorcerer are bound to each other while trying to sort out all the mess.
The story as quite a few hot scenes too, and they are written well.

So far it sounds good, so why only 2 stars you might ask?

Well mainly it's the writing style. I can't really put my finger on it, but it seems... unfinished? Juvenile? Whatever it was, it kinda ruined the story for me.
It also ends with a lot of unanswered questions, like why did the evil sorceress do all these things? Who was behind it all?
Which might possibly mean that it's leading up to a sequel, like so many books do these days. 

All in all, an ok read. You might be interested if you enjoy books involving magic and sex. For me it was slightly disappointing.

Werecake by Rosa Steel

Another Weird Wednesday read!

This time we get to meet

To be completely honest, when I think of man and cupcake combined it would probably look something like this

But in this case the cupcake actually turns into a man. Werecake - get it?

It starts of with Chase doing her grocery shopping when she spots this amazing cupcake. It is so amazing that she forgets to buy anything else in her haste to purchase said cupcake and take it home to eat it. And the book had the best description of a cupcake I have ever read..

So she gets home and starts to eat the cupcake.

But after a bite she hears a yelp! She's not able to figure out where it came from so she stops eating the cupcake to save it for the next day. Say what??

Is that even physically possible?

Aaaanyways - she falls asleep and wakes up to a surprise in her kitchen... Cake has turned into man! And somehow she manages to guess what has happened... Not the most logical conclusion maybe?
And her reaction to discovering this werecake in her flat?

Conclusion: This book might be a little weird, but it's not really shit. It gets +1 Star for amazing cupcake descripion, +1 for coming up with the consept of werecakes +1 for being slightly hot but -1 star for minor typos and Chase just guessing the man must be the cupcake...

A semi-successful Wednesday read!

Not enough time...

I have decided there are not enough hours in the day to do all the stuff I want to do...

Also, joining NetGalley has been my best/worst idea in a long time. I have gotten some free books that look like they will be good (Yay!), but at the same time I'm getting stressed over having to read and review them!
I realize now that I shouldn't have requested so many at the same time. I only did this because I didn't actually think that so many would get approved... *sigh*

Hopefully I'll manage to catch up on some reading now that I've got a week off!!

(Also, if I could just stay away from the internet I would probably get lots of reading done...)

Updating blog

Been spending a few hours today adding my old reviews from Goodreads. There are still quite a few that I haven't transferred, I might get around to those later. For some of the reviews I haven't written a lot and so I don't feel like I'm in a hurry to transfer them at the moment.

The blog is still a work in progress, but it's looking a lot better! I think I might be ready to give the address away now ;)

Dean Koontz at his best!

Billy is just a man working in a bar. Until a murderer decides to play a game. Against his will Billy is drawn into a race against time. Will he discover who the killer is before it's too late?

This book keeps you guessing who the killer is, with a lot of twist and turns. The suspense lasts till the very end.

I really enjoyed reading this book, would recommend!!
